ACAN In Action – COVID-19 Relief Effort March 29, 2020
Defeat the Hunger, Defeat the Virus
Camp Abbott, by 183 and Montopolis, is now a small tent city on a 5-acre tract housing about 200 homeless people. Managed by Texas Department of Public Safety and ATX HELPS, people here are experiencing significantly more hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The coronavirus has not only brought a dire health threat to all of us, it has also brought real hunger to those most vulnerable among us during this extraordinary national crisis. Once again, alerted by friends Selena Xie at Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, Emily Grace Clark and Austin Community College District’s Julie Ann Nitsch, Trustee, ACAN is organizing weekly hot meal donations to Camp Abbott.
Yesterday, partnering with FGS Xiang Yun Temple 佛光山香雲寺 again, 9 families and volunteers of ACAN prepared and delivered >250 hot meals to Camp Abbott: >200 Stewed Chicken Rice or Curry Chicken Rice 50 Lo Mein (Xiang Yun Temple) topped off with 20 Blondies and 24 Brownies This act of #Compassion and #Kindness will continue until the coronavirus is defeated in our City. A huge shoutout to FGS Xiang Yun Temple 佛光山香雲寺 – they will boost their donation from 50 meals each drive to 100 meals starting this week! This is our community at its best! We are all in this together💕💕 #HumanityFirst #ATXStrong
You Are Not Alone
