Upcoming ACAN Mid-Autumn Performance Show

Dear friends, since the Shang Dynasty (c.1600-1046 BCE), Chinese people have celebrated the harvest during the autumn full moon. The tradition of mid-autumn celebration originally began with worshiping mountain deities after the harvest was completed. The celebration gained popularity during the Tang dynasty (618 – 907 CE). The legend of Chang’e, also known as the Goddess of Immortality, introduced an important part of the festival celebration – moon worship. In the modern Chinese culture, the festival became a time to celebrate achievements after hard works in the spring and summer. The night of the full moon became an occasion for reunions among friends and relatives to enjoy mooncakes and admire the moon’s beauty, a symbol of harmony and unity. The festival is celebrated among many cultures in Asia, including China and Vietnam. On the 22nd of September, the Austin Chinese-American Network would like to invite you to join our Mid-Autumn celebration. The ACAN will present an exciting program with traditional music instruments, Chinese folk songs, Chinese folk dances, Beijing opera, and a Cheongsam (旗袍) fashion show. Participating artists will include renowned musicians and beautiful local performing arts teams. Please join us to experience the authentic Chinese performing arts and enjoy a night of delightful shower of Chinese culture.
