KIND AND GENEROUS – Part II

Covid-19 is hitting all of us really hard, but it is hitting the underprivileged groups in Austin Metro many times worse. Providing daily meals to the homeless shelters housing >2000 people throughout the City has become an urgent need. Answering desperate calls from agencies and community groups, ACAN and other Chinese-American groups again rose to the occasion with heartwarming compassion and generosity.

Yesterday, ACAN members, together with FGS Xiang Yun Temple 佛光山香雲寺, prepared 320 home-made hot meals for the downtown shelter. This was not an easy job in the midst of a pandemic. Every step of the process was hampered by the restrictions in effect to control the spread of coronavirus. But ACAN and Xiang Yun Temple pulled through and delivered to our partner Austin EMS Association, who helps distribute these meals to downtown shelters: 180 Fried Rice 30 Tacos 50 Croissant sandwiches 50 Lo Mein (Xiang Yun Temple) 10 Meatball Pasta and to top it off, 50 Cookies and Brownies  This is of course not a onetime deal. ACAN, with help from other Chinese-American groups, have committed to regularly provide much-needed meals to people in need during this pandemic. P.S. We have been quoting Harvard President Lawrence S. Bacow’s inspiring words to his students on our last two posts. We are very much saddened to learn yesterday that he and his wife had been infected with this virus. We pray for their health and for their speedy recovery🙏🙏, and thank him for sharing those words that inspire each of us to discover our own capacity for kindness and generosity. We are all in this together!
